I do this all the time. Use http.response as a filter. Then you can actually sort but the Info column and find 404's.

I have not found a way to follow all streams of multiple http responses for analysis.

I have a rather large ethereal file containing a complete HTTP dialog
between a PC and a server. I would like to get out of it all packets containing a specific error (HTTP 404).
Is there a simple way (display filter ?) to extract only packets related to
HTTP 404 error ? On smaller files, I have tried successfully the "Follow TCP Stream" on packets to get out the contents, but this is tedious on a large one. My configuration is Ethereal on a Windows NT 4 PC. Any help would be appreciated. Regards, Olivier R. MOREL
