Dear Mr Harris,

I have tried installing various versions of Ethereal and now I get a different problem while opening. Here they are...

Ethereal 0.9.6 - loads upto 87%
Ethereal 0.9.7 - loads upto 85%
Ethereal 0.9.8 - loads upto 94%

Three message boxes pop up (for the above mentioned three versions) after reaching their respective loading percentages.
The first message box states
" Your system is out of virtual memory. To ensure that windows runs properly increase the size of your virtual memeory paging system"
The second message box states
"GLib-ERROR ** : could not allocate 8192 bytes. Aborting .."
The third message box states
"Runtime Error! Program c:\Program files\Ethereal\ethereal.exe abnormal program terminating"

I always get the same three message boxes for each version.

However when I installed ..
Ethereal 0.9.9 - gets stuck
Ethereal 0.9.10a - gets stuck
Ethereal 0.9.13a - loads upto 20%

No message boxes here for these versions.

The RAM for this windows 2000 box is 128MB.

What should I do ? What do they mean by increase your virtual memory pagin file? Do I need to increase the RAM size? Am I doing something wrong?

Thank you for your response Sir.

Kind regards
Clayton
PS: Yes I have turned IP address-to-name resolution off. I am in the process of asking my superior to load the traffic data on the internet. As soon as I get the url I will let you know. But in the mean time could I please know what am I doing wrong? The file that I am trying to open is 67 MB in size.

Have you tried turning IP address-to-name resolution off?

If so, there might be a bug in a dissector that causes an infinite
loop. We'd probably have to see the capture (if you're willing to let
us see it, just post a URL, if possible, rather than mailing it to the
list).
