Hi List,

I just installed ethereal using tethereal 0.8.18,on my AIX 5.2 machine.

When I start with tethereal -i en0

it gives:
tethereal: The capture session could not be initiated (/dev/bpf0: A file or
directory in the path name does not exist.).
Please check to make sure you have sufficient permissions, and that
you have the proper interface specified.

although I am root.

tethereal -D says there are no interfaces.
tethereal: There are no interfaces on which a capture can be done

However ifconfig -a shows:
en0:
flags=4e080863<UP,BROADCAST,NOTRAILERS,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST,GROUPRT,64B
IT,PSEG>
        inet 172.17.28.54 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 172.17.28.255
lo0:
flags=e08084b<UP,BROADCAST,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST,GROUPRT,64BIT>
        inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 0xff000000 broadcast 127.255.255.255
        inet6 ::1/0

I have no idea what might be the reason.
Can anybody give me a hint?

thanks

Matthias
