Adam,
Ethereal is not developed by a single corporation or major
organization, but is an Open Source Software project that, like many
other OSS projects, is maintained mostly by individuals working in
their spare time or by members of organizations with interests in
improving/contributing specific parts of the program. Ethereal, the
organization, doesn't have a "tech support phone number".
There's nothing to stop any corporation from selling Ethereal or
providing support for it, though most would probably charge a fee, or
provide the support because you bought their product (Niksun, for
example, offers a modified Ethereal as part of their "NetXpert" suite,
and I assume they provide support for it), but to my knowledge no
organization has put together a "tech support" system just for Ethereal.
Ethereal isn't the most straight-forward program in the world,
especially less intuitive if you're not a programmer, or haven't done
an extraordinary amount of protocol analysis in the past, and
documentation is, well, not the best. However, if you haven't already,
take a look at the User Guide and Man page (copies are on the Ethereal
web site, http://www.ethereal.com), and we'll try to help as much as we
can here.
