I read the list of supported protocols and I ask just in case
it's there under another name, like RPC or whatever
That's really two questions:
Is there any support for the Legato Networker protocol?
and
If not, is there any support planned for the Legato Networker protocol?
There's no protocol called just "RPC", but there is "Remote Procedure
Call", which is really "ONC Remote Procedure Call" or "ONC RPC",
formerly known as "Sun RPC" - perhaps Legato's protocol is implemented
atop ONC RPC (as NFS and NIS, for example, are), but just because we
dissect ONC RPC, that doesn't mean we dissect all the protocols that
run on top of it. If the Legato Networker protocol is NDMP and there
are no *other* protocols it uses (other than other ones listed there),
then we support it; if, for example, they've implemented their own
private protocol or protocols atop ONC RPC, we don't support it.
If the answer to the first question is "no" (I don't know what the
answer to that question is, as I don't know what protocol it uses; a
Google search for
"legato networker" protocol
found some references to NDMP, but they might have their own protocols
as well), then the answer to the second question is
http://www.ethereal.com/faq.html#q1.3
We have no reoadmaps or any other types of formal plans for adding new
protocols - or for doing much of anything else, for that matter;
individual developers might have things they're working on or thinking
of working on, and they might mention them to the list and work with
others on them, but there's no Central Steering Committee(TM) that
maintains a list of projects with priorities and schedules.
