I had planned to look into how to avoid this problem, e.g. to use a separate environment variable as suggested by Gerald Combs

I had also planned to look into if the problem is solved in a later version of net-snmp or similar. I think that the problem was listed somewhere on the net-snmp bug page, http://sourceforge.net/projects/net-snmp/
