I had that error with the 0.9.11 reported when I had an instance of Ethereal running that was already installed in the destination directory. After exiting Ethereal (duh), it worked fine for me. Anything else that might have had wiretap.dll open may also have interfered with your installation.

I just downloaded 0.9.11 and in order to keep software I've installed separate from company-supplied applications, I attempted to install it into c:\Sam Sexton\Program Files\Ethereal. However, this failed as it claimed it was unable to open the first DLL for writing. I reran the installation into c:\Program Files and it worked fine. If this can be fixed, I'd appreciate getting a newer version, but I won't let this blight my life for the rest of the century! Cheers,
/Sam
