I don't know whether there were any version of Ethereal that wouldn't
work on Windows XP.

You need WinPcap 2.3 or later to run any WinPcap program on Windows XP.

It's not part of Ethereal.

It comes with many UNIX systems; if you have a UNIX system that doesn't
include it (or if your UNIX system doesn't have the latest version), you
can get it from

	http://www.tcpdump.org/

On Windows, it's called WinDump, and you can get it from

	http://windump.polito.it/
