I tried to install WinPCap on an XP Pro SP1 box about 2 months ago. It made
a mess of the system. Ethereal, L0pht and NmapWin all stopped capturing
packets. I fixed it the way I described in the earier post by uninstalling
it and all the apps that used the packet driver (Uninstalling 3.0 then
Installing 2.3, didn't solve the problem). I haven't downloaded the latest
build to verify the same issue. I'll download the latest and see if it still
doesn't work and report the findings to the WinPCap group.

If you are saying that WinPcap 3.0 alpha4 (the current version) doesn't work
on Windows XP, have you told the WinPcap developers about this? If not, be
aware that they will probably eventually stop offering WinPcap 2.3 for
download, and if the final version of 3.0 doesn't work on XP, that'll mean
there won't be a version of WinPcap available for Windows XP, so you
*should* tell the WinPcap developers about this if you haven't already done
so.
