<My setup is Windows 2000 with
<WinPcap_3_0_alpha4 and ethereal_0.9.7
<When I try running Ethereal I get the following

Unfortuantely this is a limitation of GTK on Windows. I don't think that there is any way to get around this limitation with the

GTK version that is used in Ethereal.

You could maybe try Tethereal that is the non-GUI version of Ethereal (included in the Ethereal distribution) or try Packetyzer

(www.packetyzer.com) that is based on Ethereal dissection library but not using GTK.
