I believe you're correct. I've noticed the same behavior with 
Internet Explorer (though I had always assumed it was IE trying
to be helpful rather than NT5).

For what it's worth, I tried on NT server, and the same behavior
is there too...

That's odd - I didn't have that problem on my NT4 machine.  Perhaps NT5
is being obnoxiously "helpful" here?
