Andrew,
  Thanks for the pointers; I'd hope on this box I don't need to upgrade
the video card... it's a Sun Ultra 10 with a Creator 3D card; I'd think it
has enough memory to support the color palettes needed by the apps I run
(though I do remember having palette problems with Netscape on my old IPX
and SPARC 2).  I'll give a shot at running Ethereal prior to launching
Netscape and see if my problem clears up.
  As for running SPAM... yea I used to run Cabletron's SPMAs (and SPELM)
to handle the over abundance of Cabletron gear; but as we've moved to a
more Cisco-centric shop, SPMAs don't get used too often anymore (but
there's still a FEW pieces of Ctron gear that occasionally needs
'monitoring').  Anyway, what brought that up; should I know you?  (If so,
I apologize for drawing a blank.)
