The only alternative, on Windows, is to use some other toolkit.  There's
no GTK+ 1.2[.x] for Windows.

The Ethereal binaries are compiled with GTK+ 1.3.0 and GLib 1.3.2, and
the installable packages include those versions of the library; I doubt
the person to whom you're responding *chose* to use those versions.

Yes, it eventually did - but the version of 1.3 with which the Ethereal
binaries are built certainly didn't delete any APIs used by Ethereal,
although I suppose it's possible that it changed them.
