Dear Ladies and Sirs,

I observed the following effect under 
Linux, Solaris 2.8 and HP-UX 11.00.

To run ethereal 0.8.20 it is necessary to be root, because only 
root can init. the promisc. interface. 

Check or uncheck of the radio button "Capture packets in promisc. mode" 
does not matter.

To run ethereal as setuid programm is prohibited by gtk-lib.

Is there any workaround / solution to run ethereal as non-root ?
