On which operating system?

On Windows, you download WinPcap - see the links on the page from which
you download Ethereal binaries for Windows, and *carefully note what it
says about Windows XP* - and run its installer.

On various Linux distributions, there are probably libpcap packages that
come with the OS - or it may be installed by default.

On FreeBSD, NetBSD, and OpenBSD, I think libpcap is installed by
default.

On various commercial UNIXes:

you can download the source from www.tcpdump.org, and compile
	and install it

or

there may be binary packages - the sites that have libpcap
binary packages are often the same sites that have Ethereal
binary packages, so look at the page on the Ethereal Web site's
page for downloading binary packages of Ethereal.
