What is "an NT4 error message"? Presumably it's not an error message
issued only by NT 4, as you're running NT 5.1.
> Does this product work in Windows 2000
Yes (it works on my machine at work, at least).
> and XP?
Definitely not if you try to capture packets:
http://www.ethereal.com/faq.html#q3.14
"Q 3.14: Does Ethereal work on Windows XP?
A: Yes, but it cannot capture packets, as the current version of
WinPcap doesn't work on Windows XP. It can read existing capture files,
however."
unless you're willing to try WinPcap 2.3 beta:
http://netgroup-serv.polito.it/winpcap/misc/faq.htm
"Q-12: On which OS can I run WinPcap?
A: WinPcap can run on all the main Win32 operating systems: Windows
95,98,ME, NT4 and 2000. Windows XP is supported from version 2.3 beta.
A version for Windows CE is currently under development."
Note that the answer to "Does this product work in Windows 2000?", as
the above indicates, doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the
answer to Does this product work in Windows XP?", as they're different
releases of NT, and changes may have been made between 5.0^H^H^H2000 and
5.1^H^H^HXP that would affect WinPcap (and, in fact, I think such a
change *was* made, requiring that WinPcap use, on Windows XP, an
NDIS 5-compliant driver; the WinPcap 2.2 driver isn't NDIS 5-compliant,
the WinPcap 2.3 driver probably will be).
