I haven't seen anyone reply to your question so I'll give you my less than complete answer:
The libcrypto.so.0 dependency was eliminated by loading the ???ssl?95.rpm on the second CD of the
RH7.1 installation. I lent it out so can't look up the complete file name.
I never could resolve the libsnmp.so.0 dependency despite loading the snmp packages. Instead I
tacked on the "--nodep" flag for ethereal-base to ignore it. After the base was installed, gtk+
didn't ask for it.
