Then I have no idea how the standard Ethereal can possibly do that;
perhaps I've missed something, but I don't think so.

If you're not using a standard Ethereal, I can't help you unless you
indicate which non-standard Ethereal you're using.

If you *are* using a standard Ethereal, I still can't help you, as I see
no code path that can possibly cause that behavior; you'll have to do
the debugging yourself.
