I'm trying ethereal for the fist time--I'm very new to Linux.  I downloaded and built ethereal 0.8.18 from the CVS repository using Mandrake 8.0.
It seem to work pretty well.  But I had some problems when I tried to add "Packet length" as one of my column preferences.  I created a new entry but when I edit it and try to apply or save it nothing changes in the display and it doesn't get saved to the ~/.ethereal/preferences file.  (I did get a duplicate of the info column entry.)   I had to edit it to get it to work.  Also I can't create and save packet filters.
