I have noticed that the vendor name substitution ( OUI ) in the hardware
address field
was no longer working. I have used Ethereal 0.8.0, 0.8.9 and currently
0.8.16. I noticed
that the "manuf" file was located in different subdirectories depending on
which version
( 0.8.0 was in /etc/, 0.8.9 was in /usr/etc/ and under 0.8.16 it is in
/etc/ethereal/), but
the man page for 0.8.16 indicates it should be in the /usr/local/etc/
directory. In any case
Ethereal is not inserting the vendor name for the first 3 bytes of the MAC
 OUI ), but
Tethereal works fine with the "manuf" file located in the /etc/ethereal/
directory. I am
not sure if I'm on the right track or not, I have ran as root and copied the
"manuf" file
around and still cannot get Ethereal to substitute the name for the OUI,
even though Tethe-
real works fine. Has anybody heard of this or am I just missing something in
my Ehtereal
setup. Any help would be welcome.
