By "local loop interface" do you mean the loopback interface on Linux? 
(Note that the original question came from somebody using Windows, so he
wouldn't be seeing that particular problem.)

If so, note that the current CVS version of libpcap eliminates the
duplicates on the Linux loopback interface.
