<shrug> Don't know.
I *do* know that I've got a 1GHz P-III w/ 512 MB RAM on a 100Mb HDX link
that sees about 15,000 packets per second.
Ethereal handles this just fine (so long as memory holds out).
Ntop causes the Ethernet interface to go to sleep in less than one second.
I have to do "ifconfig eth1 down ; ifconfig eth1 up" to bring it back.
