I have a Compaq Armada 7800 Laptop with 128MB RAM, 14GB SCSI HD and 2 3COM
Megahertz 10/100 LAN Cardbus PCMCIA Cards running Windows 2000 Professional.

I have downloaded the version of Ethereal, GTK and WinPcap from your
website. I installed the WinPcap drivers as per the instructions given,
placed the GTK libs in my "Windows\system32" directory that is in my path.
Ethereal starts up OK, but when I try and start a capture, I get the
following error:

The capture session could not be initiated (Error opening adapter).
Please check that you have the proper interface specified.

Note that the driver Ethereal uses for packet capture on Windows
doesn't support capturing on Token Ring interfaces, and doesn't
support capturing on PPP/WAN interfaces in Windwos NT/2000.

I have 2 hard drives that I swap back and forth in my Laptop, one has the
isntallation of Windows 2000 on it and the other has Windows NT 4.0. When I
installed it on the same laptop with the Windows NT 4.0 hard drive, it
worked fine. Can you help me with getting it to work properly in Windows
2000? We could REALLY use this. We purchased Sniffer Pro by Network
Associates, but they do not have a version yet that works in Windows 2000,
so I am left without a sniffer while my Windows 2000 drive is in my Laptop.

I went to the WinPcap FAQ and read it and provided no help.

Any help would be great.

Thanks.
