Hi!

In wanted to upgrade ethereal (from 0.8.8 to 0.8.11) and libpcap
(from the "official" version 0.4 to 0.5.2 from tcpdump.org) simultanously.
The problem was I got a message when trying to sniff the traffic on my
ppp0-device. It said: "The type of network is not supported by ethereal".
I tried downgrading to ethereal 0.8.8 and experienced the same problems.

tcpdump was working fine all the time.

After various attempts with the two different versions of libpcap and
ethereal my box runs fine now with libpcap 0.4 and ethereal 0.8.11.
For uninstalling ethereal I did "make uninstall" and removed
/usr/local/lib/ethereal completely.
For uninstalling libpcap I simply overwrote one version with the other.
My config: Slackware 7.0, Kernel 2.2.16

Is this a known problem?
Thanks for hints in advance

Christian
PS: Sorry for ugly linebreaks. I hate those silly Webinterfaces.
