Ethereal has no install program. It's just a zip file. Were you installing
something else?

Have you even looked at the Ethereal source code? Ethereal does depend upon
WinPcap for its interface list. Ethereal calls the pcap_lookupdev() function.

Have you tried Fulvio's suggestion of installing and running WinDump?
