I presume you're on some sort of shared medium, like a hub, not a switch.
It sounds like it, since you said another vendor's product can sniff
just fine. Was that other product plugged into the same network hub
as your Ethereal machine?

What OS and NIC are you using for Ethereal? Perhaps your NIC cannot
go into promiscuous mode.
