At least the rewritten Linux libpcap code has been put on the main
branch of the tcpdump.org libpcap CVS tree, so once libpcap 0.6 comes
out, there should at least be a way to fix this (and hopefully all
500,000 Linux distributions will pick that up at some point after it
comes out, so that only older releases of those distributions will
require that you manually install 0.6).

Of course, 0.5 hasn't come out yet, but I suspect it may come out soon,
paving the way for an 0.6 release at some point after that.
