This one is perplexing the devil out of me, but I'll bet will be easy
for the "right person" to see.
I have built 0.8.3 on two identical Linux boxes, both running 2.3.41 on
AMD K6/350s. On one machine it works beautifully; on the other, when I
try to begin a capture, I get the following error in a warning dialog:
"The capture session could not be initiated (socket: Invalid argument).
Please check to make sure you have sufficient permisisons, and that you
have the proper interface specified."
I *thought* both machines basically had identical software; both are
recent Slackware 7.0 installs.
Two clues, neither of which I know how to properly interpret:
Each time I invoke the program, I see a message like this in
/var/adm/messages:
> modprobe: can't locate module net-pf-17
Also, upon bootup, I also see the following message as part of the
sequence on the screen:
> ethereal uses obsolete (PF_INET,SOCK_PACKET)
Could somebody out there point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance.

p.s. The identical build on the other machine runs perfectly. So
*something* must be different. . .
