I may be wrong, but I believe Ethereal is a LAN analyzer only and is
therefore not capable of monitoring ISDN, V.24, etc. interfaces.

Subject: [ethereal-users] More questions about Ethereal
Hi all
I still have some questions about the Ethereal analyzer.
We're developing hard and software for pbx (privat branche exchange).
In the future we'll have an Ethernet connection to the pbx. But the
situation
at the moment is that we're configuring the pbx with PC applications
which we
connect over V.24 (I think it's the same as RS232) or over ISDN. We're
using
PPP over V.24 or PPP over ISDN. In the future we'll use also PPP over
USB.
That was the historical background which I gave you, so that you'll
understand
my questions.
In some secifications I could read that the network card should be
compatible with NDIS (Network Device Interface Secifications). As it the
name
says, you're speaking about Network Device and not about other devices
like V.24
device or ISDN device.
I know that Ethereal doesn't run on a PC with a MS OS. But I take for
granted that
I'll run Ethereal on a Linux OS. And imagine that I'll have a Linux
application from which
I can configure the pbx.
Now the questions:
Is the analyze of PPP hardware independent? Does your analyzer take over
control
over NDIS only or also over V.24 device and ISDN device?
What I mean is: Is it possible to analyze PPP packets over V.24, ISDN or
USB?
I hope you understand my questions. Thanks in advance.
Cheers
