Hi List!
The current release is just buggy, at least the Win32 version!
As we have some serious (and frequently/annoyingly reported) bugs in
the 0.99.0 release it might be a very good idea to release a 0.99.1
soon, even though we didn't had a lot of progress on the planned road
map features. We might simply move the planned 0.99.1 features to
0.99.2 in the road map.
To avoid such problems in the future, we might want to release a
prerelease version some days (a week?) before the actual release is
done.
Hmmm, there was a prerelease for 0.99.0, though it wasn't sent to the
-announce list (just -users and -dev). (I remember because I submitted
a patch against it.) Do you think maybe we need a longer pre-release
time or wider distribution?
No, I just didn't noticed that Gerald picked up a good tradition for the
0.99.0 :-)
However, it wasn't in the announce list what (I'm pretty sure of) would
have enabled us at least the problems we have with incoming reports of
the same problems on a daily basis. Not to mention all the people
thinking "What the f..." and don't sending any response as that's how
the majority will react IMHO.
So the announcement of a prerelease *is* important (to spread bug
reporting to a few more people) and to fix it before the actual release.
A prerelease without announcing it is just useless and only additional
work IMHO.
