Found an interesting article, recommended by OSNews:

This is a somewhat "executive summary" why and how a network analyzer
could be used to detect network security problems.

Although this seems to be somewhat marketing from network instruments,
this gives a good overview of some lacking Ethereal features
(distributed capturing, expert analysis, ...).

So it might be interesting for others to read as well.
