Hi Javier,

Hi
Using length fields one could auto-detect the version of MTP3 (and
possibly other standards such as ISUP and SCCP), provided that the
packet is well formed.
Could you be a bit more precise? How can you detect this? The length
of the MTP3 header is set by the
MTP3 dissector based on the version.
However, when the packet is malformed (which is often the case when
trouble shooting), then auto-detecting feature could be a cause of
trouble. If a packet is detected as, say, ANSI, but really was a
malformed ITU, then trouble could ensue.
In any case, I too had problems getting my first CAMEL trace to be
detected correctly. I changed the SSN to 0-254 in the CAMEL
preferences to get ethereal to read it as CAMEL.
I don't know how hard could it be to implement this, but what if ,
when viewing a packet, a little window would show the current
(important) preferences to the user, just as a reminder of what he
can change?
For instance, when viewing a TCAP trace, the window could show
something like:
MTP3 standard: ANSI
SCCP standard: ANSI
TCAP SSN: 5-100
Just my 2 cents.
