So far Mate doesn't harm if no configuration file is given.
Even this way I do not believe mate it is ready for release yet.
The documentation so far is incomplete, we are lacking a working set
of exaples (my fault), the library is not ready yet. Some parts of it
are subject to radical change ("meta-grouping" above all).
What I would prefer is not to get mate delivered with 0.10.9, but add
it to the Makefiles soon after release.
