Speaking of links to the Wiki, should we have some mechanism to, if a line in the packet detail is selected, take the short name for the protocol (as opposed to the filter name) and open the URL

    http://wiki.ethereal.com/{protocol short name}

Currently I'm thinking about if it's a good idea to use something like: http://wiki.ethereal.com/Protocols/{protocol short name} to make use of the wiki's subpage feature. That way you will have an "Up" menu entry jumping to the Protocols page, making navigation a lot easier. However, this will make a lot of renaming work necessary :-(

BTW: if you rename a page in the wiki, it's attachments will get lost :-( So if you want to rename a page, you'll have to save the attachments, rename the page and add the attachments again. Or is there an easier way to do so?

Perhaps a menu and context menu item?

Yes, that would be useful. Maybe we could even add a small question mark item in the packet details (if GTK permits, didn't have a look till know).

Unfortunately, most of those links wouldn't refer to a page right now, and the people following such a link probably wouldn't be the ones who'd follow the instructions on the page to "Create this page" (if they were familiar enough with the protocol to create such a page, they probably wouldn't have needed to use the "show me information about this protocol" link), but it still might be useful with only a few pages.

Well, there's a good chance, if we would have such links, people *might* actually write something for the protocol, even if they are not the protocol experts of the specific protocol (I don't think the complete human race is evil, so most of the changes hopefully will be ok ;-). This way we might boost the content of the wiki, but we will have more work the first time to correct invalid entries.

This might also make it necessary to rename some pages in the wiki, as the current names of some ot these won't match the "protocol short name" as I would guess.

That thing is much like the online help with links to the user's guide, I mentioned some time ago. I will do it in my "non existing" free time (and after the currently pending release is out) ...

I've added both things to the wiki's wish list.
