Usually the plugins will reside in "their" versioned plugin dir where Ethereal is searching for it (at least on win32), e.g. C:\Program Files\Ethereal\plugins\0.10.8

AFAIK, there is no version check or such at runtime.

Of course this could be handled differently/better...

However I don't use plugins at all...
