what lowest protocol is on raw B channel traffic (2), and what are protocols that are encapsulated in that protocol going to highest level IRC?

I'll discuss basic-rate ISDN here.

Physical layer:

a TDM bitstream, with 2 B channels and 1 D channel, each of which is a "logical" bitstream

Link layer:

PPP, probably in "HDLC-like" encapsulation, running on a B channel (there's also a protocol to let you run a single PPP link over multiple bitstreams, which I suspect is used for running PPP over 2 B channels in parallel)

Network layer:

	IP over PPP

Transport layer:

	TCP over IP

Application layer (perhaps containing its own session and presentation layer stuff, if necessary):

	IRC over TCP

Tomas Vilda
