Hi,
I think the problem may arise from an "old" preference file, if you install
on a virgin system I don't think the problem occurs.
Note the "/" in the string "error opening C:\Program
Files\Ethereal\asn1/default.tt, No such file or directory"
Which was the original problem (?).
In a install without the "old" preference file the string is:
"C:\Program\Ethereal\asn1\default.tt"
And no console window is opened.
The discussion about default.tt start around :
http://www.ethereal.com/lists/ethereal-dev/200310/msg00671.html
And
http://www.ethereal.com/lists/ethereal-dev/200401/msg00194.html
give an explanation on what's it used for.
Hope this helps.
Best regards
Anders

a good idea, particularly since this file isn't distributed with Ethereal.

error should be reported is still faulty, as is the auto-generation of the
string >(again, not multi-platform friendly).

first place? I don't believe anyone knew the last time I asked.
