I would think that it would be better to have the possibility to choose 
between the GNOME button ordering and
the win32/KDE/... button ordering by a preference setting for *all* dialogs.

Again, having the same button ordering for all dialogs is a must.

Yes, but as described above, that solution will be satisfying *only* the 
users familiar to GNOME.
