I've committed my patch in spite of "make distcheck" still failing.
In case, noone has an idea what is going wrong, I'll work on it on
freiday and either fix it or back it out.
The problem was a missing $(srcdir)/ in some rules; I've checked in a fix, along with fixes for some other $(srcdir) issues (one of which made the build not work), and an update to doc/Makefile.nmake that *should* work (not tested).
