I think the following paragraph from the end of his mail might
give a clue to that:

Going by the rule that anything that talks about it not being
spam most of the time is spam, this looks a lot like spam to me.
Not a kind I have seen before, but none the less. Also note his
non-personal mail address.

Of course, it could be that that paragraph is added to all mails
by his ISP, but then I would seriously consider changing ISP...
