Ethereal-dev: [Ethereal-dev] Do I need a different pcap library?

I'm running:
Mandrake 8.0 with kernel 2.4.5, libpcap 0.6.1 and ethereal 0.8.19.

After I stop a capture, and regardless of whether I exit ethereal or
not, I cannot use my network (no pings, etc.).  If I restart a capture
all is well. BUT this only happens *sometimes* and I don't see PROMISC
set when not capturing.

Do I need a new pcap (and what version) or is something else likely the
trouble?
