I own a small company that makes Traffic generation and WAN simulation
equipment based around Linux. The product is called LANforge.
Having an integrated packet sniffer would be a great benefit to
my customers, and so I have written the code to launch Ethereal
by using fork/execle. LANforge is not open-source, but I believe
I am fully within provisions of the GPL with my use of Ethereal.
However, I would like the blessing of the Ethereal community
if possible, and if there is anything I can do to keep things
amiable, I will do what I can. For instance, I will direct
all my customers to use my company for any trouble-shooting
of Ethereal on my platform. I will point them at the ethereal.com
site for documentation though... I will be happy to include
a small banner or button from my front page to the ethereal.com
page, and can add something to the credits of my program, if
that would be appreciated.
The latest release with this feature has not been released
yet, but will be soon if all goes well. Please let me know
what you think, and thanks for a wonderful product!!
(Btw, LANforge is free (beer) to most students and private Open Source
software hackers, so if you fit this category and would like a
traffic generator/ WAN simulator, let me know.)
Thanks,
Ben
