What happens if you:

	turn off the "Enable name resolution" option in the "Capture
	Preferences" dialog box before capturing packets;

	turn off the "Enable name resolution" option in the "Open
	Capture File" dialog box before opening a capture file from the
	GUI;

	specify a "-n" command-line flag if you run Ethereal from the
	command line with a "-r" option to read a capture file?

If it doesn't freeze, then

	the problem is that Ethereal is trying to resolve an IP address
	and some DNS server isn't responding;

	if you wait long enough, Ethereal will give up on the DNS server
	and continue reading.
