I couldn't reproduce that particular problem (perhaps because I didn't
follow the exact same steps - for example:

> 1. open a preference dialog box.
> 2. choose any font in "GUI" pane.
> 3. close the dialog box.
> 4. open the dialog box again.

I was assuming that "the dialog box" referred to the preferences dialog
box, not the font selection dialog box); however, I saw other warnings
from GTK+ that went away with your fix, and the code was definitely
buggy without your fix.
