If it helps any, I built under Solaris 8 (and a later build into the nines), and
it works fine. I'm not sure when zlib was added to Solaris, but I believe it
was just before release. Are you building with the release version of 8, or
an early release?
I can test it for you if you want, too. I have several versions (most
unreleased) that I can build on.
