Hmm.

I went looking for "sgml2man", and found a reference to "docbook2X":

The online documentation sucks - the "Converting to man pages" link
takes you to a page with no content whatsoever - but I infer from, among
other things, the page at

	http://www.oasis-open.org/docbook/tools/index.html

that it may, in fact, be capable of generating man pages from DocBook
documents.

If so, perhaps the right strategy is to switch from POD to DocBook for
the man page, in which case having dfilter2sgml spit out DocBook might
be sufficient.
