Dear Developers,

the SIGTRAN working group of the IETF is working on the Stream Control
Transmission Protocol (SCTP). It was developed for VoIP signalling
transport but now has a much greater scope. SCTP runs directly on top of
IP. I would like to conrtibute a dissector for SCTP. I will do this in
two steps:

1. Contribute the modifications for all files other except packet-sctp.c.
An elementary version of packet-sctp.c will also be provided. So Ethereal
will compile.
2. All further contributions will deal with packet-sctp.c only.

Since I'm also working in the SIGTRAN working group, Ethereal will be
used by other members of the group. Especially at an upcoming
Interoperability test. This also means, that the dissector will be tested
with a lot of different implemtations.
The only thing I would like to discuss is the following:
In Ethereal there is a capture window (don't know the exact name) where
counters for various protocols like TCP, UDP, ICMP, ... and so are
displayed. For us it would be very helpful, if I can introduce an SCTP
counter which is displayed like the TCP and UDP counters. If this is
acceptable, I will contribute this code as part of step 1.

Best regards

Michael
